Fowey lifeboat. 150 year Anniversary, RNLI family beach day at Polkerris.

This year marks the 150th Anniversary of the Fowey Lifeboat station which oginally was launched from Polkerris beach. To celebrate this occasion the RNLI are organising a ‘Celebration’ day on Polkerris beach (Whitsun Bank holiday Monday).
The event is being held between 12.00noon and 7.00pm on Polkerris beach and is being supported by all the local businesses in cluding the Rashleigh Inn.
There will be children’s games, a sandcastle competition, a display of photos of the lifeboat station, and a cliff rescue display.
At around 3.30 pm there will be a joint helicopter rescue exercise by both Fowey RNLI lifeboats and the coastguard teams. There will also be an RNLI training inshore lifeboat on the beach for children to get in and take a look. During the day food and drinnlk will be available, (as well as a barbeque).
There will also be a special Gig race ‘The Rashleigh RNLI Cup’ where gig teams are racing from the ‘Rashleigh’ at Charlestown to the ‘Rashleigh’ at Polkerris.
On the day we will be selling Sharps Eden Ale and St Austell Admirals Ale for £2 per pint( while stocks last ) all proceeds to the local R.N.L.I.
